Pre-employment Assessment Systems
The NetServ online pre-employment assessment system is for entry-level and hourly employees. Orion PE is NOT a “test” Never refer to the Orion PE as a “test.” Refer to the PE as an opinion survey. Since the PE is not a test, applicants do not “pass” of “fail.” The Profile gives no overall judgment of an applicant’s suitability for employment. Consider the PE as one hiring tool in your hiring toolbox, not a pass-fail test. Some companies set their own standards for the PE to determine if an applicant is acceptable for the organization. For example, a company might decide not to hire applicants who place High Risk on the Workplace Theft scale. In such cases, it is company policy, not the Orion PE that makes the applicant unsuitable. Check your company policy to see if any such rules apply. Validity Index The Validity Index is not an overall sign of the acceptability of the applicant. The Validity Index identifies applicants who, when answering the questions on the survey, were not frank or forthright in expressing their opinions. These applicants may be consciously or subconsciously altering, or distorting, their questions in a manner they think the employer wants. High Risk Validity Index View profiles with a High Risk Validity Index, which occurs in less than 10% of all applicants, as unreliable. Note: over 95% of applicants scoring High Risk on the Validity Index admit to theft from a previous employer. Marginal Risk Validity Index Marginal Risk in the Validity Index signals potential distortion. Judge Marginal Risk results as questionable. Most applicants will fall into the Low Risk group on the Validity Index, showing no problem what so ever with distortion. Information Gathering Tool Remember that the PE is an information gathering tool. As long as your company has job openings, there will always be a vital need form human involvement in the hiring process. The PE provides accurate, relevant information with which to make more informed hiring decisions. Administering the Assessment Administer the assessment in a relaxed, nonchalant manner. Do not cause the applicant to believe the survey is particularly vital to the hiring decision. The PE works best when the applicant is at ease and has a clear mind, not worrying that this stage of the hiring process is any more important than other stages. Questions about Survey Use Designed to be administered early in the hiring process, applicants should view the PE as a normal part of the paper work completed before interviewing. Today many businesses use pre-employment assessments and tests, so most applicants are familiar with the idea of completing an assessment.
